Hatyai 3D2N Trip: DAY 1 (Penang> Padang Besar> Hatyai> Lee Garden Plaza> Klong Hae Floating Market> Thai massage)

Happy Friday everyone! It's my favourite Friday again as the weekend is coming~ Time flies, it's been 3 months since my visit to Hatyai, Thailand. Promised to you guys that I will share my itinerary here and finally, yes it's like FINALLY, the post is done yeah!

If you are wondering, I'm pursuing my study at Penang since the year 2014.  Therefore, Hatyai is an ideal choice for travelling as it's so near to Penang + low budget + convenient. Since there are so many ppl asking me on how we go there, where do we visit, what we eat and so on,  I'm here to share with you all my budget trip to Hatyai with my friends.

Day 1: 27-4-2018 Friday

We reached Penang Ferry Terminal early in the morning and took the earliest ferry to Butterworth.

The first ferry from Penang Island to Butterworth is at 05.40 am while the last ferry to Butterworth is at 00.40 am. The Penang ferry runs roughly every 20 to 30 minutes and takes about 15 to 20 minutes to cover the 3 km distance. It is always on schedule so you will never wait too long for the departure.

Price: RM1.20/adult for two ways, only pay it when you return from Butterworth.

To know more details about the Penang Ferry Terminal, kindly visit MyRapid Official Website.

Once reaching Butterworth, free bus shuttle service available for you to travel to train station terminal and bus terminal. Previously, it is possible to reach the train station within walking distance but since there is currently renovation going on along the pathway, it is a must for everyone to take the free shuttle to reach bus and train station. Don't worry, you should able to reach within 10-15 min.

Butterworth > Padang Besar RM11.40
Travel time: Appox 2 hours

To Immigration Checkpoint:
  • Leave the train station, walk upstairs to the cafe, you will able to see a pedestrian bridge that leads to the main border.
  • Once you come down the stairs, the Malaysian border is just a minute walk to your left. Get stamped out of Malaysia and continue walking to the Thailand border control for another chop. The walk between borders is just around 10 minutes and there is a large Duty-Free shop halfway.

To Hatyai: By minivan 50 baht/ppl
Leaving the immigration area, you are now at Padang Besar town. To reach Hatyai, the most affordable and convenient way will be by a minivan, which costs 50 baht per person and spends around 1 hour to reach.

How to go minivan station:
The minivan station is located in the centre of town about 15 minutes walk away. After coming out from the immigration area, walk straight until you see a railway track. Cross the railway track and turn left at the traffic light. After that, continue to walk for another 3-5 min and you will able to see "Fresh Mart" on your right side. Turn right and walk along the road, the minibus station is on your right side.

The best part for the minivan: Just show your hotel address & the driver will send you to the destination! We are quite unbelievable with the fee which was just 50 baht and all you need to do is just sit there do ntg until your hotel is in front of you. 1 hour + ++ travel period but costs only 50 baht, 抵到爛!

Hotel: Pacific Residence, Hatyai, Thailand
I blogged about this hotel before so if you are interested, here is the link: Pacific Residence @ Hatyai, Thailand. We stayed here througout our trip, 3D2N.

Lunch: A random one nearby our hotel because we were just too hungry!

Three set of roasted meat rice + drink = 240 baht

Lee Garden Plaza
Walking to the Lee Garden Plaza (around 5 min) and spent our shopping time there.

Not really a must-go shopping mall to me but you can just walk around and enjoy the air-con inside. It will be more crowded if you come at night as there will be some sort of night market in front of the shopping mall.

Klong Hae Floating Market
Operating time:Every Fri Sat & Sun, 3pm-8.30pm
Tuktuk from hotel: 400 baht (return fare) for three ppl

I loveeeee this place. It has tranquil environment with nice scenery which can refresh my mind, cool me down and recharge my energy and at the same time, the polite and kind local people made me feel warmth to be there. Most importantly, the street foods were all so nice and cheap!

Klong Hae Floating Market

They prepare, cook, and sell their food by the lakeside.

Pad thai- 40 baht, Tomyam seafood- 40 baht, Fried quail egg- 20 baht, Mango sticky rice: 40 baht.

Walking upstairs, there was another area where food was sold & we ate non-stop there.

Roasted pork for only 10 baht ?! So cheap okayyy I remembered I got it at 50 baht at Bangkok last time.

After that, we went back to our hotel and had our traditional Thai massage nearby. Not really sure about the exact location of the shop because we just randomly chose the one that looked good haha, but I managed to capture the price list:

Enjoyed the night at Hatyai city before having our sweet dream ---End of Day 1
